This is not really what I had in mind when I said that children could bring their bikes from home.
Long, long ago, before Little Star was even a twinkle in anyone's eye, back in the halcyon days of Fr Jim O'Byrne, when the classrooms were built by the parish (thanks to generous Irish sponsorship) the then parish pastoral council saw fit to name each of the classrooms after a stalwart parishioner. I draw your attention to the name on the door of Red Group: Kitty King. Kitty is related to me, in a manner of speaking. She is my husband's paternal grandmother. Kitty was a Professor of English at the University of Natal, Durban (as it was called back then). When Kitty retired one of the things she did was to start a small education centre for domestic workers. It was called 'The Centre of Concern' and it ran for many years until her death. Both Philip and I taught at the centre. |
